| ATI "Hollywood" GPU(Source: WikiPedia) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_(graphics_chip) Hollywood is the name of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) used in Nintendo's Wii video game console. It was designed by ATI Technologies and is manufactured with the same 90 nm CMOS process as the "Broadway" processor. Very few official details have been released to the public by Nintendo, ATI, or IBM. Unofficial reports claim it is essentially an enhanced revision of the Nintendo GameCube LSI "Flipper", and was reportedly clocked at 243 MHz, but none of the clock rates have been confirmed by Nintendo, IBM, or ATI. Interestingly, Hollywood's reported 324 MHz clock rate is exactly 100% greater than Flipper's clockspeed at 162 MHz. The Hollywood is a Multi-Chip Module package composed of two dies within the cover. One of the two chips, codenamed Napa, controls the I/O functions, RAM access, and the actual GPU with its 3 MiB of embedded texture memory, and measures 8 × 9 mm. The other, codenamed Vegas, holds the Audio DSP and the 24 MiB of "internal" 1T-SRAM and measures 13.5 × 7 mm. Hollywood has a 128-Bit memory interface between the VRAM and GPU. | |

Yes, and that makes TWO of us. There is little official information on this unfortunately. However, I will be routing about in attempts to get at least SOME more information in the meantime.

LEAK US INFO NINTENDO!!!!! not like its overly important now. its obvious it is behind PS3 and 360.. but by exactly how much? im just gonna assume quite alot untill i see different!! IMO the wii is light years behind in terms of graphics when you look at the UFC game i posted!! but only time will tell.

Yes, they did do the same for the GC, however they never "leaked" infomration, it was simply found out be means of executing homebrew software. While the Wii runs GC homebrew with the modchip, I am guess the same response with the Intel x86 when the chip goes into "protected mode", making notice that there is TWO different modes for the chip itself. (maybe) So, the only we can do is wait. Wait until those who are attempting to hack it's software encryption successfully get past it and allow a modded Wii to run homebrew software, and the chips can be fully tested. There are other ways around this as well however again, it's a waiting game. - Drazhar wrote:

There is no question the system is graphically inferior however it is a good question to "how much"? Also what holds back a system is it's available tools that can exploit available hardware, and while Microsoft's .Net architecture has it's advantages, it is heavily bloated as well. This doesn't mean that the Wii can surpass the performance of the PS3 or 360, but I wonder and have to consider that should be able to "keep up" in some degree. One thing is for sure, I don't expect the Wii to "meet or beat" the now current generation however I DO expect it to "meet or beat" the PS2, Xbox, and it's own GC.
